February 10 Been awhileSo it has been a rough couple of weeks. I have been super stressed with work and eating crap for food. I think I am ready to get back on the diet, full steam ahead. Back on a modified South Beach Diet. A cross between phase 1 and 2. January 21 Weekly Weigh-InMary Here....
Well I managed to survive 2 weeks of Phase I. I did cheat this weekend with a small peice of cheesecake with friends this past weekend. With that minor slip I still managed to loose weight. My current weight is 188.5. I am down 2 pounds.
Today, Shayla and I ran 2.5 miles and bicycled nearly 3 miles. We pushed ourselves really hard. We have set some goals of running a 10K in Prescott in May and maybe a sprint triathalon in April.
My husband and I hiked the Hyeroglyphic Canyon Trail late this morning. It was 3 miles round trip and absolutely beautiful. We are excited for our next hike at the Superstition Mountains next weekend. January 19 Fit CityToday my husband and I participated in our city's fit challenge. We live in Mesa and has been rated the 4th FATTEST City in America. We did a 5K fun run/walk today. Our pooches came along for the exercise. We both challenged ourselves. I always feel better after working out. I am glad I have my honey and Shayla to work out with. And the positive words and encouragement from my one of my best friends Angie. They make such a difference keeping me motivated.
Thanks you guys! January 16 Second WW Weigh-InOk, the second Weigh-in wasn't as exciting as the first one. I lost 1 pound this week.... I feel like some of those teams on the show last week that had super low weight loss.... I hope that means I have a good loss next week (like the teams did on this week's show). I am struggling as I am overwhelmed at work the past week, and I've totally slacked on getting to the gym. Watching Biggest Loser this week really pumped me up and reminded me I need to get in my workouts. Mary- hold me to that!
January 14 Mary - Week 1On 1/7/06 my starting weight was 196. Today I weigh 190.5. I lost 5.5 pounds! Hooray for me.
It wasn't easy. I am doing the Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet which is very little carbs, low fat and high protein. I am almost sick of salads. I have been exercising my butt off! I am enjoying the exercise though. I think it is helping my stress level at work. I can't wait to see what next week's weigh in will show. January 09 Shayla's first weekOk, Shayla here. Eating healthy is SO difficult for me! So for the last week I've been trying to add more fruits and veggies, eat more fiber, and drink more water.... It's been a struggle, but I've lost 3 lbs this week. I was so happy to see any loss, and 3 lbs felt good. I haven't lost any weight in over 2 years, since I had my daughter. I guess 2 years later I can't use the excuse of "I just had a baby" anymore-Ha!
Ok so my current weight is 213 which is -1.38%. It's a start! IntroductionHi this is Shayla from Gilbert, AZ and Mary from Mesa, AZ and we are Arizona's Biggest Losers!
Shayla and Mary have been friends for 14 years. We met in our church youth group in the 8th grade. Yep, that's right, 8th grade! Both of us have struggled with managing our weight throughout the years. Shayla was thin before she had a baby and since she has brought a wonderful baby girl into the world she has struggled getting that darn baby weight off! Mary has always been heavy. After a suggestion by Shayla and our good friend Angie we trained for and ran a 1/2 marathon in March 2007. Mary followed a diet, exercised and lost 50 pounds, but sadly gained 10 back. Mary still has many more pounds to lose and Shayla is ready to stop gaining and start losing. We should win because we are social workers who have super stressful jobs investigating child abuse and neglect and make no money. Having a personal trainer would be the best reward ever and help us acheive our fitness and weight loss goals!
Our goal is to lose 20 pounds each in the next few months, gain muscle strength, and reduce body fat.
Shayla is following the Weight Watchers Flex plan and attending weekly meetings. Mary will be following the South Beach Diet. We will be incorporating strength training and cardio into our weekly routine.
Now, lets get to business. How will we motivate each other? Working for the same agency, we will hold each other accountable on a regular basis through email and phone calls. We will check in weekly with menu suggestions for the week and help each other make healthier choices. We will attend a weekly strength training class together at our local gym and running in the mornings on our own time. We will record our fitness acheivements along with our weight loss on this blog.
So if we are going to be totally honest, I guess we must spill our beginning weights. Yikes are we nervous, but hey if the contestants can stand on an enormous scale on national TV, I think we can brave it on the internet.
Starting Weight as 1/2/08:
Mary - 196
Shayla - 216
Team Total: 312
Holy ****!
Here we go! Stay Tuned!
Shayla Mary
